AHIP (America's Health Insurance Plans) certification is required by CMS for all agents who sell Medicare Advantage, Prescription Drug Plans (PDP), and Medicare Supplement plans. It must be completed annually before the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP).
AHIP is the official CMS-compliant Medicare training and certification program. It covers Medicare basics, plan types (MA, PDP, MAPD, Medigap), enrollment rules, and Fraud, Waste & Abuse (FWA) compliance. Completing AHIP is mandatory before you can sell any Medicare product.
Go to ahipmedicaretraining.com and create an account. You will need your NPN (National Producer Number), date of birth, and last 4 digits of your SSN. The course costs $175 if purchased directly, but many FMOs including Insured Priority offer a discounted rate — contact us before registering.
The certification consists of a Medicare training course followed by a final exam. You must score 90% or higher to pass. You have 3 attempts. Once certified, your certificate is valid for the plan year and must be shared with each carrier you are contracted with.
